Midnight Chai & the 4 AM Shift

 


It was 4:00 AM.

The ballroom was silent, except for the rustling of fabric, the whirring of cables, and the occasional deep breath from a crew member trying to shake off fatigue.

The event was set to begin at 8:00 sharp—a major corporate award gathering with over 300 guests, dignitaries, and a packed agenda. This wasn’t just another gig. This was a showcase of precision, and nothing could go wrong.

We were down to the finishing touches: AV tests, name tags, stage branding. Everything had to be perfect. But let’s be honest—we were exhausted. Our feet ached. Our eyes burned. One team member was double-checking chair rows for the fifth time just to stay awake.

One of our regular vendors—a soft-spoken logistics guy who rarely said much—walked in with a flask and a pack of paper cups.

“Chai break?” he asked.

The entire mood lifted.
